Pumping Station Hertog Reynout

Pumping Station Hertog Reynout

The polder Arkemheen is one of the oldest polders of the Netherlands. Here you can see the steam pumping-station ‘Hertog Reynout’.

This steam pumping-station is the only one of its kind that is still working. It has been operative for 100 years until 1983. Before that, there was a water-windmill here. In 1985 the facility was restored. You can visit it on Tuesdays until Saturdays. Nowadays an electric facility keeps the waterlevel in the polder under control. When the water in the land gets extremely high the old facility is still used and can be seen working on steam. For those who are interested, there are special pumping-days on which the facility is working.
